Multiphoton Ionization as Time–Dependent Tunneling
نویسنده
چکیده
A new semiclassical approach to ionization by an oscillating field is presented. For a δ–function atom, an asymptotic analysis is performed with respect to a quantity h, defined as the ratio of photon energy to ponderomotive energy. This h appears formally equivalent to Planck’s constant in a suitably transformed Schrödinger equation and allows semiclassical methods to be applicable. Systematically, a picture of tunneling wave packets in complex time is developped, which by interference account for the typical ponderomotive features of ionization curves. These analytical results are then compared to numerical simulations [1] and are shown to be in good agreement. ∗e-mail: [email protected]

Time-dependent density-functional-theory study of the suppressed tunneling ionization of vanadium
Using a time-dependent density-functional-theory (TDDFT) method that incorporates the exact exchange, we reproduce the measured ionization suppression for vanadium in 1500-nm lasers of 1.4 to 2.8 × 1013 W/cm2. The calculated ionization yields are 0.07 to 0.5 in 100 fs sin2 pulses. For weaker laser intensities a method with more configurations is needed to properly describe the multiphoton, rath...
متن کاملDichotomy between tunneling and multiphoton ionization in atomic photoionization: Keldysh parameter ? versus scaled frequency O
It is commonly accepted in the strong-laser physics community that the dynamical regime of atomic ionization is characterized by the Keldysh parameter γ . Two distinct cases, where γ < 1 and γ > 1, are associated with ionization mechanisms that are predominantly in the tunneling and in the multiphoton regimes, respectively. We perform fully three-dimensional quantum simulations for the ionizati...
متن کاملSignatures of tunneling and multiphoton ionization by short-laser pulses: The partial-wave distribution
We analyze the two-dimensional angular momentum-energy distribution of electrons emitted from argon by short laser pulses. We identify characteristic features of both multiphoton and tunneling ionization in the partial-wave distribution for Keldysh parameters close to unity. We observe a remarkable degree of quantum-classical correspondence in the photoinization process which becomes even more ...
متن کاملTunneling dynamics in multiphoton ionization and attoclock calibration.
The intermediate domain of strong-field ionization between the tunneling and multiphoton regimes is investigated using the strong-field approximation and the imaginary-time method. An intuitive model for the dynamics is developed which describes the ionization process within a nonadiabatic tunneling picture with a coordinate dependent electron energy during the under-the-barrier motion. The non...
